THE INVITATION
An invitation to a treasure hunt, Find the coin, post the location, and enter to win.
312AD, the Roman Empire was tearing itself apart, divided between four emperors. Constantine the Great needed to unify the empire under his control, and set about creating a deception so large it still shapes the world today.
Saira Valteiri, disgraced vatican archaeologist has discovered Constantine's confession: A set of clay tablets carved by his own hand. Obscura Veritas, the vatican's own secretive security force will stop at nothing to prevent Saira from releasing what she has found.
That is the premise of my new novel The Mithraeum Cabal,
THE COINS
I had a limited number of coins struck, bronze, antiqued, and heavier than they look.
On one face the Wide open eye of truth. Surrounded by the empirial laural and the wheat of the secret cult of mithras. Oculus Veritatis,
On the reverse, the half-closed eye Lux Obscuritas, the eye that sees darkness and light at the same time. Open to see the truth, but shielded from becoming a blind follower of faith alone.
HOW THE HUNT WORKS
If you find a coin, Photograph it where it lay. Post the photo to your instagram and tag @swearengin_jeremy and use the #MithraeumCabal. I'll repost every find. A note will accompany every coin and tell you what you've found. You can keep the coin, or rehide it to keep the hunt going.
What Happens Next
I'll be posting clues, hiding-spot photographs, and occational dispatches as the hunt unfolds. The Mithraeum cabal is finished and is being queried to literary agents. If you find a coin and want the opening pages they'll be click away. Questions just ask jeremy@jeremyswearengin.com
